Whether you’re restoring a riverbank, backyard bosque, or tending a garden, we invite you into the Understory.

The nursery prioritizes species native to the Rio Chama and Rio Grande watersheds— trees, grasses, shrubs, and wildflowers that support pollinators, stabilize riparian zones, and follow the rhythms of the seasons.

Plants are grown from seed gathered from local ecotypes and trusted seed-saving networks. Seeds are collected with permission, harvested conservatively, and never taken from rare or endangered species.

A selection of non-native medicinal plants are also offered.
