For the love of the land and the stories it carries…
Understory is more than a plant nursery. At its heart is a living relationship between people and place, root and river, seed and story.
In addition to our nursery, we are building partnerships to offer hands-on learning in seed saving, ecological stewardship, and growing climate-adapted, water-wise gardens. We hope to support the continued exchange of knowledge within our community and give back to the watersheds that sustain us.
Understory is tended by Ash Haywood—mother, farmer, educator, and visual storyteller with over a decade of experience in nonprofit work, youth mentorship, and community-engaged storytelling in Northern New Mexico. She continues to learn from plants, people, and place through land-based work.
