At its heart is a bond between people & place, root & river, seed & story.
Understory was founded by Ash Haywood, whose work in Northern New Mexico brings together seed stewardship, ecological gardening, and place-based storytelling. Since 2010 she has been growing plants, tending community and personal gardens, and learning about the region’s native flora. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for over a decade, developing and facilitating agricultural and community-based storytelling programs & projects with people of all ages.
