About Understory Nursery

We grow and sell native wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs attuned to the river valleys and uplands of Northern New Mexico, as well as select medicinal and food starts.

We gather our seed from locally adapted ecotypes and trusted seed-saving networks.

You can shop with us in person at local farmers markets June-September or reserve plants in advance for market pickup.

We also accept a limited number of custom orders for personal gardens, community spaces, small-scale eco restoration projects, and educational gardens.

Our 2027 catalogue is now open for preorders.

Preordering helps us plan our growing season and ensures you get the plants you’re looking for. Many of our native species are planted by seed in the fall to go through a winter stratification period and we get them to you when they are transplant ready with healthy roots. Pickups times vary and are coordinated around our market schedule. We’ll be in touch when your plants are ready!

HOW IT WORKS

2. Choose your plants, bundles, and quantities.

3. Add your selections to your cart and enter your preferred pickup location.

4. You’ll receive an order confirmation once your order is submitted.

5. We’ll be in touch when your plants are ready to coordinate your pickup at Taos, Abiquiu, or Santa Fe Farmers Market beginning in June.
